The ESV says hard as a cast metal mirror. The liberal NRSV makes no attempt to try to make Genesis fit into modern science, so it translates the word as dome. Arguing for a non-solid raqia in Genesis is extremely problematic, for two reasons. First, the biblical and extrabiblical data indicate that raqia means a solid structure of some sort.
